The eighth annual B-B-BRRR (Border Battle Bike Race on the Red River) Winter Classic is a one of kind bike race, embracing the frosty winter season and celebrating our love of biking. In 2017, more than 100 cyclists braved the cold for this chilling event.
The 2018 B-B-BRRR event starts Sunday, January 28th at 1:30pm with registration and check-in from noon to 1pm outdoors in the beautiful Wildflower Grove Park (just south of Oak Grove Park). The 10K course begins in the park and takes riders of all abilities through a variety of terrain; pedaling across bike paths, prairie tundra and the frozen Red River of the North. The route for this race is dependent on weather conditions, but regardless of the weather, the race will go on!
After the race, riders and spectators are invited to gather just west of the race course at Great Northern Bicycle Co. (located at 425 Broadway) for a post ride celebration and award ceremony. Awards are given to the top three riders in both the men’s and women’s divisions in the Fatbike and Slim Bike categories. Along with a chance to win prizes in a drawing, riders have a chance to be awarded certificates for the best dressed rider, best dressed bike, slow-poke and a few other good humored honors!
All racers receive a meal, beverage and t-shirt for participating. Early bird entry fee of $30 on or before Thursday, January 25th ($40 afterward). Riders can participate in either the Slim Bike (tires less than 2.5 inches wide) or the Fat Bike category. Early check-in and registration will also be available Friday and Saturday at GNBC. Race Day registrations accepted noon to 1pm.
Experience is not required to ride, but helmets are. All ages are welcome to participate. All proceeds of the ride benefit the non-profit Great Rides.
